Asbestos is a term for a group of minerals made of microscopic fibres. It was widely used in construction and other industries until the late 1990s. When these materials are damaged or disturbed, tiny asbestos fibres can be released into the air and breathed into your lungs.

In this course, learners can find out more about asbestos, the various related diseases, the legislation, and the process of asbestos removal.


The learning objectives are as follows:


  • To know what asbestos is

  • To be aware of asbestos-related disorders

  • To know who is most at risk

  • To be aware of the history of asbestos

  • To know how to identify asbestos

  • To be aware of the legislation

  • To understand the process of asbestos removal

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
