Children need special rights because of their unique needs – they need additional protection that adults do not.  What are these rights, and what do they involve?

This training course is aimed at learners who look after young people in care. It explores the rights of children in terms of a human rights perspective.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To gain knowledge of the laws and conventions protecting human rights and the rights of children
  • To gain awareness of the principles and values essential for working with children, young people, and their families
  • To understand the relevance of children’s rights for your organisation and work
  • To be able to use a children’s rights framework to improve the care of children
  • To gain an understanding of how the rights of children are promoted and protected in practice
  • To encourage debate on the importance of children’s rights

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
