This course is the first part of the six-module Introduction to Fostering. The course sets out what fostering is and entails, and what qualities you should have if you are seriously considering becoming a foster carer. It includes some statistics for Scotland, answers to frequently asked questions, and the points of views of care leavers and foster carers.

The learning objectives are as follows:

• To know what fostering is
• To understand the fostering household
• To be aware of the qualities that a foster carer needs 
• To understand what children want from a foster carer
• To be aware of the benefits of being a foster carer

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
