This course is an introduction to the LGBTQIA+ community, the challenges that the young people in this community face and what you can do to support them. During this course you will gain knowledge and understanding of the current definitions and terminology within the LGBTQIA+ community and how to create safe spaces for the young people in your care.

The learning objectives are as follows:

• To understand what LGBTQIA+ means
• To know what gender identity and gender expression is
• To understand non-binary genders in more detail
• To be aware of the issues that LGBTQIA+ people face
• To be aware of the extra issues that LGBTQIA+ children and young people in care may face
• To know what you can do to provide care and support

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
