This course is a comprehensive guide to understanding the purpose of a fostering panel and how they are used to protect some of society’s most vulnerable children and young people. The course explains the responsibilities of a fostering panel, how one is established, and who is who on the panel. Furthermore, the course breaks down the steps of a fostering assessment, from the Initial Visit through to Reflective Practice.   

The learning objectives are as follows:

• To have an understanding of the underpinning legislation, guidance, and standards

• To understand the fostering “task”

• To know who is who in the fostering panel

• To understand an assessment of a foster carer

• To know what critical thinking and reflective practice are

• To understand fostering panel meetings

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
