Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a complex Autism Spectrum Condition characterised by an anxiety-driven need to be in control. People with PDA need a different approach to the ones used with other Autism Spectrum conditions. This course will teach learners how PDA differs from other types of autism.

Most importantly, the course will teach effective strategies to ensure that those who work with people with PDA can support them to help them meet their potential and manage their behaviour.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand the meaning of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
  • To know the impact PDA has on a person and how they might be supported
  • To be aware of the key principles of positive behaviour management when working with those with PDA
  • To understand the effects that PDA has on lifelong learning and social opportunities and how to reduce the impact of this

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.

Should you have 5 or more learners requiring this training please consider the face to face option we offer.

Should you wish to discuss your needs before making a booking, please go via our live chat.
