To care for children to the best of your ability, it’s important that you know the ins and outs of the education system – and specifically how it affects looked after children. This course will give an overview of the education system, as well as an outline of the crucial milestones that your child or young person will encounter.

The course will also discuss the issues the young person might face, as well the additional funding you have access to. It will also tackle the newly revised GCSE grading system.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

1. To understand a framework of the education system in England
2. To know the appropriate information on legislation
3. To develop an awareness of the specific needs and difficulties that children and young people in care may face
4. To understand how to promote educational achievement
5. To develop an awareness of strategies to support children at home
6. To be able to find further advice and guidance when required

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
