This course takes an in-depth look at sexual health and blood-borne viruses. The course explores different sexual activities, the risks associated with them, and how risks can be reduced. The course also includes details about different sexual diseases and infections, their symptoms, and how they can be treated and prevented. There are tips and guidance on how to talk to young people about sexual health and related issues.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To define sexual health 
  • To understand factors that may result in risky sexual activity
  • To consider the various sexual activities and potential risks associated with them
  • To identify the types of common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses 
  • To understand what STIs are and the possible consequences associated with them
  • To consider the different types of contraception available 
  • To develop engaging ways of working with young people around sexual health, sexuality, and relationships
