At some point in your work, you may look after a young person of a different ethnicity, nationality, or religion. It is very important to understand your commonalities and differences to provide better care for the young person. Some cultures have specific rules for worship, dress, and food. In this course, you can find out more about how to address young people’s needs.

To understand and explain the terminology used by young people when talking about their ethnicity
To know how to deal with racism
To know how to help a young person develop a positive racial identity
To know how to create a positive environment
To know how to find commonality and acknowledge positive differences
