At some point in your work, you may look after a young person of a different ethnicity, nationality, or religion. It is very important to understand your commonalities and differences to provide better care for the young person. Some cultures have specific rules for worship, dress, and food. In this course, you can find out more about how to address young people’s needs.  

The learning objectives are as follows: 

• To understand and explain the terminology used by young people when talking about their ethnicity 

• To know how to deal with racism 

• To know how to help a young person develop a positive racial identity 

• To know how to create a positive environment 

• To know how to find commonality and acknowledge positive differences 

• To be aware of practical advice 

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
