This course explains the reasons why children end up in the UK unaccompanied and their legal status once they enter the UK. There is also guidance on relevant legislation and what the role of the carer should be with unaccompanied children. The second half of the course provides useful information about culture, society, and religion in Afghanistan that will help if you are caring for a child from Afghanistan.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To know what an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child is 
  • To know why children come to the UK unaccompanied
  • To know the legal status of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children
  • To understand the needs of asylum-seeking children
  • To understand the role of the carer
  • To understand Afghanistan

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
