There are more than 800,000 young carers in the UK.

The official definition of a young carer is “…a person under 18 who provides or intends to provide care for another person (of any age, except where that care is provided for payment, pursuant to a contract or as voluntary work)”.

In this course, you can find out more about how to address the needs of young carers.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To know why so many young carers are hidden
  • To understand the roles and responsibilities that young carers face
  • To understand the impact on their social, physical, and emotional development
  • To be aware of the legislation and rights affecting young carers
  • To know how schools can support young carers
  • To be aware of what other support is available for young carers and their families

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
