The Learning Zone Model – which was developed by the German adventure pedagogue Tom Senninger – is a helpful model to illustrate how we can create learning situations. It rests on the fact that children and young people who have experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma will retreat into a comfort zone that may contain negative and challenging behaviours. Allowing children and young people to move beyond that requires them to negotiate risk and build resilience. This will explore the therapeutic models to achieve those objectives.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  1. To understand the Tom Senninger Learning Zone Model and comfort zones
  2. To understand the therapeutic methodologies that underpin children and young people having comfort zones that in turn can reinforce behaviours that cause them discomfort
  3. To know the therapeutic responses to this phenomenon such as social pedagogy and systemic theory
  4. To be aware of models to assist carers to build resilience and help young people expand their comfort zone

This course provides professionals who work with children and young people the means to advance their knowledge of therapeutic care.

Upon booking this course, we will discuss the learning objectives and outcomes you wish to achieve based on the young people in your care.

Should you wish to discuss your needs before making a booking, please call 0800 774 7874.
