This course will provide a good knowledge and understanding of nutrition, healthy food, and diet – and will explain the links between diet and health. The course will help you to prepare nutritious, well balanced meals, and it provides an opportunity for carers to gain knowledge and skills around helping children and young people to have a healthy lifestyle and to be a healthy weight.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  1. To understand bad food choices and the impact on health
  2. To gain a better understanding of the government Eatwell Guide
  3. To consider how and why we make food selections
  4. To understand food labels to inform food choice
  5. To identify added sugar in our diets
  6. To identify how we can cut down on harmful food types such as sugar, salt, and fats
  7. To gain an understanding of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and their role in maintaining health

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
