This course will look at looked after children, what that means, and when a child becomes looked after. It will compare the care system in the UK versus other modern European countries, the issues and challenges that looked after children face, and the different approaches.

The course will explore general do’s and don’ts with a looked after child in a care situation, attachment issues in care, and the importance of effective engagement, participation, and communication techniques.

The main learning objectives of the course are as follows:

  1. To understand what it means to be a looked after child in the UK
  2. To be aware of the issues and challenges that face looked after children
  3. To know the different approaches to caring for looked after children
  4. To understand the importance of effective engagement, participation, and communication techniques

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
